Complaints & Animals At-Large
Emergency
The following situations are considered an animal emergency and should be reported immediately:
- Injured animal
- Animal bite (animal on human only)
- Wild or aggressive animal
- Loose livestock
- Loose or wild animal at a school
Please call 9-1-1 if it is a true emergency. Please note that animal-on-animal attacks are not responded to.
Non-Emergency
Please contact Joshua Animal Services at (817)774-9450 during normal business hours. For after-hours non-emergencies, please contact county dispatch at (817) 556-6060.
Owner Responsibilities
It shall be unlawful for the owner of any dog or other animal other than a cat to fail to keep such dog or animal from running at large.
Running at Large
An animal will be deemed running at large if the animal is not completely confined by a building, wall, or fence of sufficient strength or construction to restrain the animal.
Exceptions
Animals shall not be deemed running at large if:
- The animal is on a leash
- The animal is held in the hands of the owner or keeper
- The animal is under direct supervision of the owner within the limits of the owner's private property
- The animal is within an automobile or other vehicle
Impounding of Animals
Any animal running at large is subject to being impounded by animal control officers. Strays and dead animals will be picked up during normal business hours.
