THE PUBLIC INFORMATION ACT

“The Public Information Act, formerly known as the Open Records Act, is located at chapter 552 of the Government Code. The Act provides a mechanism for citizens to inspect or copy government records. It also provides for instances in which governmental bodies wish to, or are required by law to, withhold government records from the public.” (Texas Attorney General website).

REQUEST PUBLIC INFORMATION

In accordance with the Texas Public Information Act, all requests for public information must be made in writing and should identify:

1) the records needed; and,
2) provide the requester’s contact information such as mailing address, phone number, or email.

You may purchase a copy of the Peace Officers Crash Report through Texas Department of Transportation by going to TxDOT Crash Report Online Purchase System Website 

FEES

Government Code, Chapter 552, Sections 552.009; section 552.205; and sections 552.261 through 552.274 set the fees for request. These sections provide advice and direction to governmental bodies and requestors regarding charges for public information.

Fees may be paid by cash, check, or money order. Make check or money order payable to the City of Joshua. Do not mail cash.
