Press Release – Police Chief

The City of Joshua is pleased to announce the appointment of David Gelsthorpe as Chief of Police for the City of Joshua. The appointment becomes effective following the official Oath of Office on Friday July 23, 2021.

David is currently employed with the city as a Lieutenant in the Police Department. David has Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and is a Master Police Officer. Additionally, he is a graduate of Institute for Law Enforcement Education School of Police Supervision.

David replaces Shaun Short , who has accepted a new position in another City. Chief Short served the City of Joshua for 6 years and we wish him continued success in his new role.

Public Hearing Notice – Swimming Pool Setback Requirement

Notice is hereby given that the City of Joshua’s Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council will conduct a public hearing to consider a request to amend the Ch. 14 Zoning Ordinance, Article 5, section 5.3- Supplemental Use Standard Table- swimming pool property line setbacks to five feet (5’) instead of the current eight feet (8’).

The Planning and Zoning Commission will conduct its public hearing on August 9, 2021, at 6:30 PM and the City Council will conduct its public hearing and consideration on August 19, 2021, at 6:30 PM. NOTICE TO BIDDERS

The City of Joshua is soliciting proposals for a contract on Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and Voluntary Benefit coverage. Proposals must be received by 3:00 PM CT on August 10th, 2021.

Notice is hereby given that the City of Joshua’s Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council will conduct a public hearing to consider the request for a zoning change from the (C1) Restricted Commercial District to the (R2) Two Family Residential District on a 0.593 acre of land in the J.H. Good Friday

All city offices are closed Friday, April 2 in observance of Good Friday with the exception of the City Secretary’s office.
The City Secretary’s office will be opened from 8am to 11am for election services.

Public Hearing Notice – Thoroughfare Plan

The City of Joshua’s Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council will conduct public hearings to  consider an amendment to the Thoroughfare Master Plan, contained in the 2016 Comprehensive Plan, by removing the existing 2-Lane Collector Roadway from SH 174 to CR 1023 and designating CR 904 west of SH 174 as a 2-Lane Collector Roadway

COVID 19 Vaccine

Burleson waitlist for COVID-19 vaccines is now open for signup. This is for first doses in Phase 1A & 1B ONLY. If you are looking for your second dose this waitlist DOES NOT apply to you. If you’ve already signed up on our waitlist – DO NOT SIGN UP AGAIN – You will be contacted this week to set up your appointment. If you are unsure if you are on the waitlist, you can call (682) 312-2780 to confirm.
We utilize this waitlist for when we receive our next shipment of vaccines or if we have any cancelations. If you are signed up on the Tarrant County Health Department’s waitlist you can still sign up on this one and we encourage you to do so. Due to extremely high volumes as a result of the previous weeks’ storms, residents will only receive one collection this week-recycling will still be picked up.
Normal pickup schedules will be resumed next week. We want to thank everyone for their patience as Waste Connection works to catch up on collection.

Other Information

Additional recovery programs have also been made available to aid Texans in recovering from this disaster.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) received federal approval to SNAP recipients to use their food benefits to purchase hot foods and ready-to-eat meals and for the replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed due to impacts from the severe winter storm.

USDA Programs The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) continues to work with local, state, federal, and non-governmental partners to address the severe winter weather effects on Texas livestock and poultry and is working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to deliver programs that provide assistance to rural communities, farmers and ranchers, families and small businesses affected by the recent winter storms.

Emergency Plumbing Permit Application

The severe weather event experienced by our region has caused considerable damage to residential and commercial properties in the City of Joshua. Among the damages reported are ruptured water pipes and irrigation lines, failed water heaters and furnace.
Due to the expected increase in plumbing permit applications received, the City of Joshua has created a new Emergency Plumbing Permit Application form on the city website. All emergency plumbing permit applicants are required to use this form, accessible via the following link:
Joshua City Council and staff are committed to ensuring that the recovery process is as efficient as possible for our residents and business owners. All emergency plumbing permit and inspection fees for work performed by plumbing contractors registered with the City will be waived.
Each plumbing contractor will be required to provide documentation to the City that the work has been performed in accordance with state code and City Ordinance. Homeowners and Commercial Insurance carriers often require work to be done by a licensed professional under the proper permitting process in order to process claims.
Additionally, to reduce inconvenience and wait times experienced by residents and contractors, inspections will be performed virtually via a process adopted by the Building Official in accordance with International Code Council
procedures.

Press Release 2/22/2021

The severe weather event experienced by our region has caused considerable damage to residential and commercial properties in the City of Joshua. Ruptured water pipes, irrigation lines, and damaged hot water heaters, not to mention structural damage, sheetrock and flooring. As a result, the City Manager has authorized the Department of Development Services to waive all plumbing permitting and inspection fees that are a result of damage from the recent freezing weather.

An Emergency Plumbing Permit Application can be located on the City website www.cityofjoshuatx.us  and available to all registered plumbers with the City. Proof of damage will be required and may be uploaded with the application.

This application will be available for 30 days. Times may be extended on a case-by-case basis. All repairs must be in accordance with International Plumbing Code 2015 and all local ordinances that apply
