The Chisholm Trail 100 will host the “Guns and Hoses” blood drive on August 29th from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. The blood drive will be held at the Community Room next to the Joshua High School. Carter Blood Care will be on hand to collect the donations to assist with the August goals. While there you will be able to find out more about the Chisholm Trail 100 Club, which is an organization dedicated to the assistance to families of Police, Fire and EMS employees in Johnson County, injured in the line of duty. On Line registration preferred, but walk in donations will be welcomed as well. The drive will be a little friendly competition between the Police (Guns) and Firefighters (Hoses). The Joshua Police Department will be testing for Police Officer on July 31, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.  If anyone is TCLEOSE certified, they may pick up an application at the Police Department or on the city’s webpage.  An application may be picked up the day of the test but be prepared to turn it in the same day.   For more information call 817-558-3194.

All the dogs and kittens at the Animal Shelter are begging for a new home.  At this time there are 27 kittens and each inside dog kennel is holding approximately 12 dogs.  Please find it in your heart to adopt a pet to ensure they get a long and wonderful life with a family.

Joshua City Manager, Paulette Hartman, has a new addition to her family.  Kayla Lynn Hartman was born on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 4:16 p.m.  Kayla weighed 6 lbs and 3 oz and was 19 3/4″ long.  Both mother and baby are doing well.  We wish them the best and congratulations.

Street repairs are scheduled to begin on May 24, 2010. Work will begin on Hilltop then on to Rosewood, then Ridgeway and then on Edgehill. Please do not park vehicles on the roadway from 7:00 a.m. thru 5:00 p.m. on Monday thru Saturday.

A rabies clinic will be held on Saturday, May 15th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Owl football stadium.  Rabies shots are $8.00; Flea dips are $7.00; microchips are $20.00; City licenses are $5.00 for sterilized and $10.00 for non-sterilized.

As part of the contract with IESI, Joshua residents will be able to dump bulk trash, brush and debris at the Turkey Creek Landfill twice each year.   Residents will need to take your city garbage collection bill with you in order to enter free of charge.  The first of the two dates has been scheduled for Friday, June 11th and Saturday, June 12th.   The hours for Friday, June 11th will be 4:00 am – 5:00 pm.  The hours for Saturday, June 12th will be 7:00 am – 12:00 pm.  A second landfill day will be provided in the Fall.  More information will be provided in the coming weeks

Johnson County and the City of Cleburne are sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event Saturday, May 15th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Cleburne Conference Center located at 1501 W. Henderson in Cleburne.  This is the place to dispose of household chemicals such as antifreeze, brake and transmission fluid, batteries, oil filters, fertilizers, paints, thinners, herbicides, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, pool chemicals, etc.  All you need is a photo ID showing a Johnson County address to participate.  The following items cannot be disposed of at this event: ammunition, explosives, tires, asbestos, propane or butane cylinders, smoke detectors, or radioactive material.  For more information call 817-645-0961.

National Police Week is May 9th – 15th, and the Joshua Police Department will host an Open House on Thursday, May 13th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. as part of the week’s festivities.  A tour of the department will be conducted and refreshments will be served.  The Police Department is located at 102 South Main Street.  All are welcome to attend.
