The Joshua Type A EDC Board Meeting scheduled for March 8, 2010 has been cancelled due to a lack of agenda items.
The Joshua City Council will conduct a public hearing in order to obtain public input regarding an application for a gas well permit located in the W. P. Gentry Survey, Abstract #307, Tract 9, Johnson County, Texas more commonly known as 1156 N. Main Street. The public hearing will be held at the City Council Chambers, 101 S. Main Street, Joshua, Texas, 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010.

Each year, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, Emergency Management Coordinators and officials with local jurisdiction, join together to recognize Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Severe Weather Awareness Week in Texas has been set for Feb. 21 – 27, 2010.
This is an opportunity to help prepare our residents to deal with the extreme weather events that come our way in Texas. This is an excellent time to build public awareness by reminding our residents to update their emergency plans, double check emergency supply kits and get prepared for tornadoes, floods, hail, straight-line windstorms and other hazardous events.

Joshua residents will begin to receive quarterly billing for trash and recycling from the City of Joshua instead of from IESI starting February 22, 2010. These bills will be for garbage and recycling service from March 1, 2010 – May 31, 2010. Payment will be due March 15, 2010, and will be made directly to the City. The bills will look different than what residents are used to seeing from IESI, and will be mailed to the owner of the property. A sample bill is attached to the end of this message for your information.
Service routes and collection days will remain the same. Garbage is collected every Tuesday and Friday, Recycling is collected every Wednesday. All waste collection containers as well as any brush and bulky items must be in place for collection no earlier than 7:00 p.m. on the evening prior to the collection day and no later than 7:00 a.m. each morning of the collection day. Waste collection containers must be removed no later than 7:00 a.m. the morning after the collection day.
Residents will continue to recieve bills quarterly as you have in the past. As has always been the case, City residents are required to establish service for trash and recyclying with the City’s contract provider, which is IESI. The ordinance also requires residents to pay for that service or face late fees, citations, and collection proceedings.

City offices will be closed on Monday February 15, 2010 for Presidents Day. City offices will re-open on Tuesday February 16, 2010 at 8:30 a.m.
City offices will be closed today Friday February 12, 2010 due to inclement weather. As well, trash service has been cancelled for Friday due to the road conditions.
Due to the winter weather warning City Hall will be closing at 1:00 p.m. today. The City follows the Joshua ISD procedures regarding inclement weather. The Joshua ISD will also be closing at 1:00 p.m. today.

IESI will be closed on Friday January 1, 2010 for New Years Day. Service will resume on Tuesday January 5, 2010.
IESI will collect Christmas Trees placed curbside during the regular trash collection days on Tuesday’s and Friday’s for the next several weeks. Trees will be collected at no cost to residents. Any tree that is more than 9 feet in height, will need to be cut in half to be removed.

The City of Joshua Police Department will hold the first ever Citizens Police Academy. The Citizens Police Academy starts classes January 12, 2010 and is a ten week learning opportunity where Citizens of Joshua can gain knowledge of the Joshua Police Department’s personnel and operations. There will also be an opportunity to learn about general operations of the City as a whole. The goal of this program is to build trust and rapport between the citizens of our community and their Police Department, as well as provide understanding of what exactly the Police Department does and personal interaction with each officer. Citizens will gain an appreciation and understanding of the problems and challenges of their community as well as the problems and challenges law enforcement officers face today.
