The Joshua Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting scheduled for Saturday, December 3rd has been cancelled due to predicted inclement weather. The Parade and Tree Lighting have been rescheduled for Friday, December 9th to begin at 6:00 pm.

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., the city will participate in the Federal Emergency Alert System nationwide test. This 30 second test will include the city outside warning sirens and Connect CTY phone notification system. A message will be sent to all residents and business owners in the city indicating that “This is a test”. The test is being advertised on radio, TV and other media outlets. Joshua’s participation in the test should be complete within approximately 10 minutes.

What is it? The Joshua Police Department Citizen Police Academy is a 30-hour block of instruction designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Joshua Police Department’s personnel and policies. The Academy consists of a series of classes, held once a week for ten (10) weeks and one Saturday class at approx. three (3) hours of less each session. The instruction is comprehensive, covering a different area of the Police Department each week as well as other city services. Officers, personnel and city personnel conducts each instructional block.
Who May Attend? In order to apply for the academy, you must live in the city limits of Josha, work in the city limits of Joshua or own a business in the city limits of Joshua. The academy is held once each year. The minimum age for enrollment is eighteen (18) years of age.
The Purpose: The Joshua Citizen Police Academy was created in order to provide enough information to the citizens that attend so that they may make informed judgements about the Police Department and police activity. It is further hoped that the instruction will increase police awareness whereas to dispel suspicions and misconceptions and to increase police/community rapport through this educative process. The department, in turn, becomes more aware of the feelings and concerns of the community from the student’ interaction and input.
Topics: The Joshua Citizen Police Academy covers such diverse topics as training, communicaitons, criminal investigations, DWI procedures, juvenile law, the special respnse team and special crimes unit. Instruction in these and other topices will consist of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on experience.
For More Information: If you are interested in applying for admission to the Joshua Police Department Citizens Policy Academy, you may attain an application from the city website or pick one up form the Joshua Police Department at 102 South Main Street between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday. Alumni Association: Graduates of the class are invited to join the Alumni Association. The purpose of the Association is to support the police department with volunteers during special events, fundraising for special purchases and to assist with public awarenesss about the functions of the department.

The Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association invites you to “Bet on the Blue”. An evening of gaming and fun festivities in support of the Joshua Police Department. The event takes place this Saturday, October 22nd at Mountain Valley Country Club. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is $45, which includes dinner and $1,000 worth of chips. Prizes will be awarded to high chip winners.
Groundbreaking ceremony for the new Central Fire Station to be built in Joshua on North Main Street will be October 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. That day also marks the sixty year anniversary of the day the community established the Volunteer Fire Department. Design of the new 13,600 square foot facility has been completed and soon the bid phase will be underway. The new station will have 4-65 foot drive through bays with 16 foot doors. The Operations side of the facility will house a kitchen, dining area, day room and bunk room capable of housing 8 overnight firefighters, restrooms and showers. In the administration side, offices for the Chief and other command staff, reception area, lobby, public restrooms, training room and fitness/workout room. The training room will double as a community room available to the public for birthday parties, meetings or other gatherings. Also included in the administation section of the building will be the City’s Emergency Operations Center. More information will be provided as plans are completed.
The Fall Clean-Up is scheduled for October 21-23,2011 and this year the city will only allow one load per household or business. The number of loads of trash and debris has become a problem in the past with many people making repeated trips to dump trash and debris that total more than 20 trips. The cost of that volume quicky overwhelms the ability for city crews to manage and haul off the debris. Residents will be required to present the most recent city trash bill along with a photo ID in order to dump. Business owners will be required to provide the most current water bill and a photo ID. Drop off times are from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Vehicles are to enter from 6th Street and leave from 10th Street. There will be a $5.00 each charge for batteries or tires. No chemicals, paint, auto parts or any appliances with a compressor will be accepted.
Please remember that persons who live outside the city limits of Joshua, will not be allowed to dump and will be turned away. This program is only available to residential and commercial citizens within the corporate limits of the City of Joshua.
Any person with an outstanding warrant from the City of Joshua, who comes in between the dates of October 17, 2011 and October 28, 2011, will have the Failure to Appear charges and the fine amount of $225.00 dismissed. To qualify, a person must pay the warrant and fine amount in full and the FTA charge and fine will then be dismissed by the Court. Payment arrangements for outstanding warrants can be made during this time, however, amnesty will only be offered on the FTA charge and fine if payment is made in full. Warrant round-ups are scheduled following these amnesty dates.

Electric service in the Mountain Valley subdivision has been out since around 4:00 am Sunday. Based on conversations with Oncor/TXU Electric, the power may remain out for the next 12 to 24 hours while crews work to restore service. Power will be restored in sections as damaged lines are replaced. It is recommended that you call every 2-3 hours to inquire about the status of service and to assure that Oncor/TXU remains aware that outages remain in the area.
During that time, the City of Joshua has opened two “Cooling Centers” that are available for residents to spend time in and avoid the heat of day. These centers are free of charge and will be available until the power has been restored.
