The City buildings will be closed on Monday, September 6, 2010 in Observance of Labor Day. We will resume normal hours on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.
The City of Joshua Police Department will hold their second annual Citizens Police Academy with classes starting January 11, 2011. This is a ten week learning opportunity where citizens of Joshua can gain working knowledge of the Joshua Police Department’s personnel and operations. Instruction is comprehensive, covering different areas of the Police Department each week. There will also be an opportunity to learn about general operations of the City as a whole. The goal of this program is to build trust and rapport between the citizens of our community and their Police Department, as well as provide understanding of what exactly the Police Department does and personal interaction with each officer. Citizens will gain an appreciation and understanding of the problems and challenges of their community as well as problems and challenges law enforcement officers face today.
Classes will cover the organization of the department, the recruiting and hiring process, the Texas Penal Code, criminal investigations, building searches, traffic enforcement, suspicious activity, the Special Response Team, and the Special Crimes Unit among other things. The academy will also cover City of Joshua operations and procedures along with a section related to Animal Control. Physical activity is kept to a minimum.
Participants must be 18 years or older, and either reside or work in the City of Joshua. Partcipants are required to submit a completed Citizens Police Academy application form, and consent to a criminal history check. Applications can be downloaded from the City’s web site at www.cityofjoshuatx.us or picked up at the Joshua Police Department, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Completed applicaitons should be submitted to the Joshua Police Department no later than December 31, 2010. For further information, contact Captain Leland Cheek at (817) 558-3194. Class will be limited to 20 members at no charge to participants.
Johnson County will begin street repairs on some City streets. Below is a list of the streets and days. These repairs should take approximately one day for each street depending on weather conditions. The work will begin after the school traffic has slowed down.
Spring Valley – Tuesday, Sept. 7th
County Road 1023 – Wednesday, Sept. 8th
16th Street – Monday, Sept. 13th
