The City Offices for the City of Joshua will be closed on Friday, December 31, 2010 in observance of the New Year’s Holiday.  Normal business hours will resume on Monday, January 3, 2011.  City staff wishes everyone a Happy & Safe New Years.

The Planning & Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for January 3, 2011 will not convene due to the lack of agenda items.

Joshua residents will be able to dump free at the Turkey Creek Landfill on January 21 and 22, 2011. Residents will need a copy of the city waste bill and proper ID. Hours are Friday 7 a.m.- 6 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. The Terkey Creek Landfill is located at 9100 South I-35, Alvarado Texas 76009.

Signups are Saturday’s in January: 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the concession stand at the New JBA Fields.

Last chance signups are Saturday, February 5th at City Hall, 101 S. Main, downtown Joshua from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

There has been a very good response to the Angel Tree that is located in City Hall.  However, there are still 9 Angels who have not been selected.  Please look deep in your heart and think of these little Angels who might not get anything for Christmas.  The Johnson County Foster Parent Association needs to have all unwrapped gifts  picked up by December 6, 2010, which is next Monday.  We know the citizens of Joshua care too much to let these 9 Angels go without so come to City Hall and select an Angel!!!!!

The Johnson County Foster Care Association has put an Angel Tree in City Hall.  Please come by and pick an angel so no children will have to go without Christmas presents this year.

The City buildings will be closed on Monday, September 6, 2010 in Observance of Labor Day.  We will resume normal hours on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

The City of Joshua Police Department will hold their second annual Citizens Police Academy with classes starting January 11, 2011.  This is a ten week learning opportunity where citizens of Joshua can gain working knowledge of the Joshua Police Department’s personnel and operations.  Instruction is comprehensive, covering different areas of the Police Department each week.  There will also be an opportunity to learn about general operations of the City as a whole.  The goal of this program is to build trust and rapport between the citizens of our community and their Police Department, as well as provide understanding of what exactly the Police Department does and personal interaction with each officer.  Citizens will gain an appreciation and understanding of the problems and challenges of their community as well as problems and challenges law enforcement officers face today.

Classes will cover the organization of the department, the recruiting and hiring process, the Texas Penal Code, criminal investigations, building searches, traffic enforcement, suspicious activity, the Special Response Team, and the Special Crimes Unit among other things.  The academy will also cover City of Joshua operations and procedures along with a section related to Animal Control.  Physical activity is kept to a minimum.

Participants must be 18 years or older, and either reside or work in the City of Joshua.  Partcipants are required to submit a completed Citizens Police Academy application form, and consent to a criminal history check.  Applications can be downloaded from the City’s web site at www.cityofjoshuatx.us or picked up at the Joshua Police Department, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.  Completed applicaitons should be submitted to the Joshua Police Department no later than December 31, 2010.  For further information, contact Captain Leland Cheek at (817) 558-3194.  Class will be limited to 20 members at no charge to participants.

Johnson County will begin street repairs on some City streets.  Below is a list of the streets and days.  These repairs should take approximately one day for each street depending on weather conditions.  The work will begin after the school traffic has slowed down.

16th Street – Monday, Sept. 13th

The Chisholm Trail 100 will host the “Guns and Hoses” blood drive on August 29th from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. The blood drive will be held at the Community Room next to the Joshua High School. Carter Blood Care will be on hand to collect the donations to assist with the August goals. While there you will be able to find out more about the Chisholm Trail 100 Club, which is an organization dedicated to the assistance to families of Police, Fire and EMS employees in Johnson County, injured in the line of duty. On Line registration preferred, but walk in donations will be welcomed as well. The drive will be a little friendly competition between the Police (Guns) and Firefighters (Hoses).
